Is your product RoHS compliant? If not, DCI can help. What is RoHS?In January 2003, the European Union (EU) adopted two environmental directives, RoHS and WEEE, to contribute to the protection of human health and environmentally sound recovery and disposal of electrical and electronic equipment.RoHS stands for the "Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances" (RoHS), Directive 2002/95/EC, that was enacted by the EU to minimize the impact of end-of-life electrical and electronic equipment on the environment. The RoHS Directive becomes effective on July 1, 2006 and mandates that certain electrical and electronic products sold within the European Community (EC) shall contain restrictive levels of the following substances: 1. Lead (Pb) 2. Cadmium (Cd) 3. Mercury (Hg) 4. Hexavalent Chromium (Cr6+) 5. Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB) 6. Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE) The RoHS/WEEE directive does not call for a total elimination of these substances. It mandates that the homogeneous materials within compliant products, or materials that cannot be mechanically disjointed into different materials, contain levels of the six restricted substances that are below the maximum concentration levels. The WEEE directive, "Waste in Electrical and Electronic Equipment", concentrates on the recycling of electrical and electronic products, and states that, from 13 August 2005 onwards, manufacturers are required to finance the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of all WEEE sold under their brand within the EC.
